Description

A rich and hearty holiday lasagna featuring a savory Italian sausage meat sauce and a creamy three-cheese ricotta filling. This bake is designed to be sturdy and flavorful, perfect for festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 12 oz lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375F (190C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles with a spoon.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  5. While the sauce simmers, cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 2 minutes less than the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped parsley. Stir until smooth.
  7. Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Place a layer of noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle with one cup of mozzarella.
  9. Repeat the layers (sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella) until ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce topped with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  12. Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
