Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 12 oz lasagna noodles
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375F (190C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles with a spoon.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- While the sauce simmers, cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 2 minutes less than the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped parsley. Stir until smooth.
- Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Place a layer of noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle with one cup of mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers (sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella) until ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce topped with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
