Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (about 4 medium potatoes)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for mashed potatoes)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (for mashed potatoes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients by chopping onions, carrots, and any additional vegetables.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté onions until translucent. Add diced carrots and cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  3. Increase heat slightly and add ground meat to the skillet. Cook until browned while breaking it apart.
  4. Stir in peas along with broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for about 5–10 minutes until thickened.
  5. While the filling simmers, boil peeled potatoes until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter, cream, salt, and pepper.
  6. Spread meat mixture in a baking dish and top generously with mashed potatoes. Bake at 400°F for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
